1. Lazily leaving my blog mostly as is, and relying on blogger.com's default level of really basic template control for newbs, to determine the look of it.  With this sort of template to start with, I was able to add in some simple scripts and widgets and whatnots to put a lil bit of frills on the page, including my twitter text feeds, and twitpic feeds. I get to have an archive thing, a keywords word cloud, some other something blah blah. Anyway the point is i could customize it at some level while still maintaining a respectable level of laziness and non-effort, essential to my standards as a slacker and professional student who is trying to maintain a faux art blog.

However, I have a tendency to want to put multiple pictures into one post, in a effort to keep similarly themed pics together.  But, I also have a tendency to want to blah blah blah and comment a bit on the pictures.

The consequence of all of this is that a lot of my pictures are not as quickly browsed and previewed by my accidental/incidental visitors.  A lot of my art ends up "hidden" on later pages.

So then I found this blogger template:

2. I was actually kind of jonesing for a template layout like those found at tumblr (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-10-free-tumblr-themes-create-portfolio/) that i know some artists there use. So I poked around some of bloggers templates looking for something similar, and I found this great one: Dynamic Views - Snapshot.

What I love most about it is that theres a thumbnail of *all* the images in my blog, and not just the first one of each entry. This is just for Snapshot view though, apparently.

but:

a. I can't have any of the cool little customizations like my word cloud or archive and crap like that.

b. My statcounter script also fails on this template. This makes me uber sad.

c. I can't limit the type of views that are available to visitors. I would love to just force them to deal with the Snapshot view as its the only one (i think) that ensures that thumbnails of all the art are on that first preview page. All the other views show thumbnails, but only of the first pic of each entry.

I would LOVE to be able to keep the Dynamic views - Snapshot view over all look and utility, but with the ability to add scripts and widgets and crap like that at least to a side bar. That would be toooottally perfect.

Until then.. i will mope and be unhappy. c'mon you blogger.com staff.. fix it please!

So, right now, the first (to my knowledge) planned get together at our new place is underway.  We've had visitors and stuff, but this is the first time were going to have visitors, plus dinner, plus some planned social activity (games, card games), plus all us roomies.

It'll be cool and fun, but I hope there are not too many of these. theres only so much loud fun I can handle at such proximity to where I live (as in in my bedroom).  Its a couple weeks before finals though, and I don't have any other pending deadlines this month, so it's all good.

for tonight though, its enough for me to be vicariously satisified through my roomie that at least shes got a guy to do stuffs with. As long as its not too much gatherings and social times at our place. ;p Or if it is, that its not too loud so that i can be more efficiently antisocial when i need to be. ;p

new chapter cliche

Today i signed a lease to room with three of my newer friends. Whats special about this is that I don't think I will have anything at all to hide from them. They know of my weird "personal preferences," my tendency to be depressed, and a little bit about my family problems back home. I think I will feel "at home" with them, as much as I can with anyone.. maybe even comfortable in my own skin for the first time in a long time.

They are also oddballs in their own way, each of them different. But I think from what we understand of each other we accept each other despite our quirks, and its possible that its the first time any of us has been in a living situation with people who knew us for who we were (at least in breadth, if not depth).

One young son is also coming with us. To keep us out of trouble. :)

I am optimistic about this. I think they are too. :)
